ATLUS is streaming the first few hours here tonight 2/25/11.

Radiant Historia is the latest NDS offering from RPG darling Atlus. Brought to you by a team of misfits that also helped make Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, Persona 3 and Strange Journey. Historia is a nice throwback to the days of yesterlore, the 90's, when SNES was THE place to get your grind on. Heavily influenced by games like Chrono Trigger, Xenogears and Final Fantasy VI, Radiant Historia breathes new life in a genre I had thought was all but lost.

What's the game about?
Radiant Historia is game of time travel and war, you start the game as Stocke, a young lad working as a spy. Early in the game you are given the White Chronicle, a book that appears blank at first, but is revealed to control the ability to travel to various points in time. It is with this Chronicle that you change events that you may have found undesirable or wish to see played out a different way, in that regard this game is amazing in scope, with countless parallel endings and multiple time lines bound to give high replayability.


What separates this game from all the Dragon Quest's and Final Fantasy's?
First off, there are no random encounters, all enemies walk around the play field before you engage in combat. Enemies can be smacked around while walking around the field and become knocked out giving you a preemptive strike against your foes.

How's the battle system work?
Historia boasts a battle system that is quite unique, intuitive and strategic, making leveling up less mundane than previous excursions. Enemies are placed on a 3x3 grid with certain positions better suited for defense or attack, certain player attacks have effects on how well enemies can attack, like knock backs, stuns or combo attacks.Something newly added to the RPG genre is the ability to change queue positions with enemies in battle as to align more attack turns for bigger combos.


How's the music? An RPG is nothing without a nice soundtrack.
The OST was composed by game music veteran Yoko Shimomura, famous for making such memorable soundtracks such as Street Fighter 2, Super Mario RPG, Final Fight, and Legend of Mana, to name a few. The style is very reminiscent of Yasunori Mitsuda's work with the Chrono series and Nobuo Uematsu's music for the Final Fantasy series. The game also comes packaged with a Disc sampler of various tracks from the game.
